The Badlands Tube Stereo Preamplifier comes as access point to the statement level performance of the Yosemite Preamplifier while optimizing for size and function. It's a pure tube rectified line stage stereo preamplifier. There are no regulators or integrated circuits utilized. This is a pure analog tube line stage with all the drive and gain you could ask for without meaningful noise or distortion. Perfect? No, but pretty darn close and ever evolving.
The Badlands is a Yosemite in an easier to consume package allowing for use in personal audio systems. The size of the Badlands allows for placement on your desk or 2ch users to select the phono stage of choice. The Badlands is the consummate purist’s choice. It utilizes our in-house power transformer and is the first to incorporate filament regulation via filament choke. 1 HV power transfer, 1 PS choke, 1 Filament choke and 2 input transformers to be specific.
The Badlands provides 3 inputs including 1 stereo XLR and 2 pairs of RCAs. The outputs are a pair of stereo RCAs allowing utilization of 2 different amplifiers.
We conceived the Badlands to be the bridge between personal audio and 2ch. You have your Balanced DAC source via XLR and ability to incorporate and external phono stage. The 2 sets of RCA Outputs provide gain and volume control for your headphone and 2ch rig side by side.
The Badlands utilizes the most popular 9pin tubes which are 12AX7s and a single 12BH7 along side a single 5Y3/5V4/5U4/5AR4 rectifier.
With a gain of 16db and THD: 0.007%, the Badlands offers gain and tone without meaningful noise.
From a function standpoint, the Badlands is your control center with the Kenzie integrated headphone amp being a natural pairing for headphones and the Stereo 17 providing the amplification for any 2ch system. Each component is 12" wide x 10" deep and 6" tall. Their shallow depth is intentional as to allow for easy placement on a bookshelf.
Volume control is a 24step pot for precise channel balance.
The Badlands is a line stage based on the venerable Marantz 7.
The nature of this pre was to give all the sonic dividends of the Marantz 7 but in a more robust/serviceable package.
